Organic Arenga Palm Sugar - 450 g
What is Arenga Palm Sugar?
Arenga Palm Sugar is originally extracted from the pure sap of the arenga and date palm. At the top, where the palm tree blooms, a notch is made from which sap slowly seeps out. Palm sugar is a frequently used ingredient in Thai and Javanese cuisine. The harvested pure juice is slowly evaporated into palm sugar in a traditional way.
Arenga Palm Sugar is a 100% natural sweetener of organic quality. Our Arenga Palm Sugar comes from Asia.
What does Arenga Palm Sugar taste like?
The sugar has a light caramel-like taste and is less sweet than, for example, cane sugar.
Glycemic index & Blood sugar level
Arenga Palm Sugar has a glycemic index between 30-35. The glycemic index (GI) says something about the speed at which carbohydrates are digested in the intestine and absorbed into the blood as glucose. The lower the better for blood sugar levels. The blood sugar level represents the amount of insulin in the body's blood. One can have either too low or too high blood sugar levels, which can ultimately lead to diabetes. The body mainly gets blood sugar from the food you eat.
The important role of the sugar palm
Not only the taste of Arenga palm sugar and the perceived health benefits are unique, but also the environmentally friendly production process.
The amazing sugar palm plays a central role in Masarang's reforestation programs. This tree can be used both locally and globally as a sustainable resource and is therefore a very good alternative to the devastating palm oil.
