Selenium Solution
Product information:
What is selenium?
Selenium is an essential trace element discovered in 1817 by Swedish chemist Jöns Jakob Berzelius, who named it after the Greek moon goddess Selene. Selenium is a semi-precious metal that occurs in both organic and inorganic compounds and is vital to the body. It is an important component of enzymes and proteins involved in various bodily processes, such as the regulation of thyroid hormones and the antioxidant protection system, which protects against free radicals (glutathione peroxidase). Selenium also supports male fertility, contributes to normal hair growth, and is good for the nails.
Selenium in our diet
Selenium is found in small amounts in many foods, including meat, fish, eggs, cabbage, onions, lentils, asparagus, nuts (such as Brazil nuts), and mushrooms. The selenium content of plant foods can vary depending on the amount of selenium in the soil. It is important for vegetarians and vegans to consciously include selenium-rich plant foods in their diet.
Selenium as a supplement
This supplement from Allergy Research Group® provides 100 mcg of selenium in the form of sodium selenite per serving. Selenium in this form is often chosen because it accumulates less quickly in the body and is therefore safe for long-term use. However, sodium selenite can form insoluble complexes with vitamin C, so it is not recommended to take them simultaneously.
