Postbiotics
Postbiotics are bioactive substances produced by probiotic bacteria during their metabolic activity. Think of short-chain fatty acids (such as butyrate), peptides, enzymes and other metabolites that can have a direct effect on the intestinal wall, the immune system and general health.
Unlike probiotics (live bacteria) and prebiotics (fibers that feed bacteria), postbiotics are the end products themselves — they can be used for targeted support without having to survive in the digestive tract. This makes them more stable and specific.
