Organically bound
Magnesium taurate is a bioavailable and organically bound form of magnesium. Inorganic magnesium forms such as magnesium chloride, magnesium hydroxide and magnesium sulfate are less bioavailable and are therefore less well absorbed. For example, magnesium sulfate only has a bioavailability of 4%. This means that a dosage of 200 mg of magnesium sulfate is only effective for a mere 8 mg. The best forms we know are magnesium chelates such as magnesium taurate, magnesium malate and magnesium bisglycinate. Your daily diet generally contains inorganically bound magnesium. These are the forms that occur in the soil and are absorbed by the plants that you eat every day. Examples include magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate. L-taurine
Magnesium taurate is a combination of the amino acid taurine and magnesium. In this combination, magnesium and taurine have a synergistic effect, making this form of magnesium very well absorbed. Absorption of l-taurine takes place via the amino acid transport system in the small intestine. Through this active transport system, the bound magnesium quickly enters the bloodstream, where it is transported to the rest of your body. This means you will experience the optimal effect of the magnesium!
Elemental magnesium
The elemental amount of a mineral must always be stated on a label. The molecular compound of magnesium taurate contains 8% elemental magnesium. That may not seem like much, but an elemental amount of magnesium of 60 mg coming from 750 mg of magnesium taurate can be considered equivalent to approximately 400 mg of elemental magnesium bound to citrate. After all, the absorption of magnesium bound to l-taurine is many times greater!
Pyridoxal-5-phosphate
