Borage (borago officinalis) is an herb derived from borage, a plant also known as cucumber herb. Pressing the seeds of the plant produces an oil with a high percentage of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). We attribute various health-promoting effects to this omega-6 fatty acid. The ancient Greeks already used the herb for this reason.
Of all oilseed crops, borage is the main plant source of GLA. The oil contains the highest percentage compared to other plants, such as the evening primrose.
