The forms ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) can be found in mushrooms and food of animal origin, respectively. Mushrooms and animals produce vitamin D in the same way as humans, under the influence of UV radiation (sunlight). In fact, the form you consume from animal products (vitamin D3) is the exact same vitamin D that our human skin produces, and therefore the most bioavailable form to our human digestive system.
