What is Taurine?
Taurine is a substance naturally occurring in the body that is often confused with an amino acid, but it is not technically an amino acid. It contains a sulfonic acid group instead of a carboxyl group, which prevents it from being incorporated into proteins. Taurine is mainly present in the brain, eyes and muscles.
Taurine in food
Although the body can produce Taurine from the amino acids methionine and cysteine, it is also found in animal products such as meat, fish, and shellfish.
