Product information
What is iodine? Iodine is one of the essential trace elements that our body cannot produce itself. It is part of the thyroid hormone thyroxine and is therefore crucial for the functioning of the metabolism. All human organ systems (especially the nervous system) depend on iodine. Iodine is also important for maintaining body temperature (basal metabolism) and for the division and growth of cells. It also plays a role in maintaining normal skin (ability to regenerate), contributes to normal cognitive function and thus plays an important role in mental movement and activity. It supports normal growth in children. An iodine deficiency can become noticeable as goiter (struma) due to an enlargement of the thyroid gland. Iodine in our food Good food sources of iodine are sea fish and seaweed. The iodine content of food is subject to large regional fluctuations, as it largely depends on the iodine content of the soil and water. Iodine as a supplement The product Kelp from NaturesPlus contains 150 mcg of natural iodine from Icelandic seaweed per tablet.
