What is zinc? The essential trace element zinc is involved in many processes in the human organism as a component and activator of numerous enzymes. It helps to build up and break down carbohydrates, fats and proteins. It also plays a role in growth, the immune system, sexual development and fertility, as well as taste and appetite. Zinc is also involved in the antioxidant protection system against free radicals and supports the bones. It plays a role in mental exertion and activity, but also in stressful situations. Since there is only a limited supply of zinc in the body and it can only be mobilised with difficulty if it is not supplied sufficiently, a continuous supply through food is particularly important.
